Roses – 2011

The roses are in full bloom at the All America Rose Selection display garden at the LSU Burden Research Station / Rural Life Museum.  It’s a veritable cornucopia of photo opportunities; all you need to take good photos is some decent glass and a tripod, and, frankly, you don’t even need that if you have a steady hand.  The roses have been in full bloom for about ten days now and will probably remain so for a few more weeks, so get over there and see it for yourself while you still can.  These photos were all taken with the tack-sharp 200mm f/4 macro, which is too heavy for me to handhold with good results, but mounting it on a tripod makes for a combination that’s tough to beat.  Most of the photos were taken early in the morning while the light was still soft and even, with the added bonus that in some of the photos you can see the morning dew still on the flowers.  As always, you can click on the picture to see a full-size image, and clicking on the SmugMug link below will take you to a gallery with a lot more of my rose pictures.
